information

Nestled in the hills above Florence sits Villa Poggio San Felice, a sanctuary for those seeking a restorative retreat in the peaceful quiet of the Tuscan countryside. Originally belonging to the Da Unzanno family, the key holders of Florence, the villa was built in 1428 and still to this day boasts the original doors, windows, family seals and several works of art. In the 1800 the villa came under the ownership of Eleonora Di Pazzi, rivals to the Medici family.

During the Victorian period Florence became a refuge for such English and American writers as D.H.Lawrence, Oscar Wilde, E.M Forster, Henry James, Radcliff Hall, and Lady Troubridge, amongst others, who drew upon the Florentine way of life to unleash their imaginations. Villa Poggio Sanfelice embodies the legacy of this creative spirit, welcoming all those who wish for the time and space to rejuvenate, to see with new eyes and endeavor in creative process.

Background

Then…

Nested in the hills above Florence sits Villa Poggio Sanfelice, a sanctuary for those seeking a restorative retreat in the peaceful quiet of the Tuscan countryside. Originally belonging to the Da Unzanno family, the keyholders of Florence, the villa was buils in 1428 and still to its day the original doors, windows, family seals and several works of art. In the 1800 the villa came under the ownership of Eleonora Di Pazzi, rivals to the Medici family.

The grounds provide a harmonious landscape of traditional Tuscan gardens with roses, benches, statues and a secret garden.

And now…

Today the Villa is under stewardship of Marc and Hagit T’Syen who bring an international background and diverse history of working in arts, style and culture in New York, Paris, London , Antwerp and the Middle East. Villa Poggio Sanfelice embodies the culmination of Marc and Hagit’s decades of experience as designers, antique collectors and curators of culture. Their passion for aesthetics is informed by such influences as Marc’s former mentor, the legendary interior designer and antique collector, Axel Vervoordt, and the Japanese Buddhist philosophy of Wabi Sabi.

Restoring furniture belonging to the original family, Marc and Hagit combine these antique pieces with their private art collection to create a new language between objects. Furniture is restored not to look new, but to onor its unique patina and the spirit of its history. By juxtaposing classical and contemporary aesthetics, Marc and hagit compose intimate environments that invite harmony and dialogue between past and present. At once elegant and soulfull, Villa Poggio Sanfelice is a place to engage all of your senses, inviting you o create your own poetry, wheter it is through writing, drawing, photographing, composing or jus being.

Marc and Hagit welcome you to their boutique retreat and hotel either as individual guests on holiday or you may reserve the entire villa for private yoga, wellness, group retreats, or arts, culinary or education workshops. Periodically, the villa hosts intimate art, music and film salons.

Located just a short ten minutes drive from the heart of Florence, and just a few minutes from Piazza Michelangelo and the Poggio Imperiale, the villa is the perfect setting from which to explore the riches of Florence and then to retreat to the countryside.

Situated on a hill, all the rooms of the villa have breathtaking views of the Tuscan landscape and the city below.

In the evening you can gaze from the veranda at the ever-changing Tuscan light, close your eyes to the sounding of the church bells and meditate on the silver waves of olive leaves flickering in the evening breeze. Come to reconnect with a sensual harmony between the natural world and human design. In short, Villa Poggio Sanfelice is a study in serenity.
