This yoga and Ayurveda retreat in Sri Lanka is all about taking a giant leap towards your fullest, most alive and vibrant self.  In one of the most beloved Vedic myths, Hanuman takes a giant leap of growth and transformation as he traverses from India to Sri Lanka in a hero’s journey to save the goddess Sita who has been taken from Ram. Along the way he encounters multiple obstacles that ultimately challenge him to step into the fullest, most beautiful version of himself. As we take our own journey to the magical lands of Sri Lanka, we will harness the teachings of Hanuman’s journey, and through the lens of Ayurveda, reconnect with and celebrate our own true nature, while also inviting in plenty of time for rest, relaxation, nourishment and connection with our fellow travelers.

THE HEART // Yogascapes has been dreaming of creating a yoga retreat in Sri Lanka for years and also dreaming of how we can tie together yoga and Ayurveda in the most amazing location ever. When we discovered Rukgala Retreat, we knew it was the perfect fit to host our first yoga retreat in Sri Lanka. Every day we’ll dive into yoga, learn about Ayurveda, and integrate the two by learning from Lisa and embracing the Sri Lankan culture.

7 Day Retreat

On this epic yoga and Ayurveda retreat in Sri Lanka we’ve planned a beautiful flow for you designed to embrace and explore the rich culture and land of Sri Lanka, balanced with the quiet and rejuvenation of a healing retreat center tucked away on the side of a lake surrounded by nature. 

Each day of the retreat is designed around a theme to offer you the most healing and rich experience that a week as a whole can offer and so that each day is a delicious experience in it’s own right. Each day we will learn about and integrate a different element, a different energetic experience and a different sensory experience. Lisa will tie this theme into the movement classes, the meals, conversations and our explorations, embracing true embodiment of Ayurveda.

We have included a visit to a Tea Plantation, a train ride that is considered the most beautiful in the world to visit Ella, an Ayurveda cooking class and have left plenty of time for you to simply enjoy the beauty of our lake retreat, to have a one-on-one with Lisa, receive bodywork or to go on your own adventure to visit an elephant sanctuary, hike or do something you’ve been dreaming of doing in Sri Lanka.

Lisa Åkesson Stryker

Lisa Åkesson Stryker is the founder of Areyouvedic, her business and online
platform through which she shares her passion of Yoga and Ayurveda. She
supports her clients through Ayurvedic health consultations, workshops in
Ayurvedic cooking, Ayurvedic treatments and her Yoga teaching.

She offers a holistic and integrated view of the practices, approached with light heartedness and attention to each individual’s specific needs. Through the combination of Yogic philosophy, application of the Ayurvedic principles and guided subtle energy meditations, she’s able to support her clients on many levels. She cooks for retreats and Yoga teacher trainings, teaches private and group Yoga, and through these activities continues to go further on her own path.

Her teachings are guided by a strong desire to share her journey towards a calmerand stronger mind, healthier body and a more balanced relationship to food. It is important for Lisa to be of service, and cooking has recently been the main medium through which she is able to show up for others in this way.

Raja Yoga is approached in a focused, balanced and sustainable way. The asana is done with some longer holds, seamlessly blended with easy, balanced, slow flow, to allow students to go deeper and explore postures fully. Lisa looks after each student’s personal needs, in a warm, supportive, non-judgmental environment suitable for students of all levels.


Rukgala Retreat

Rukgala was conceived from a passion and enthusiasm for this very beautiful and still pretty unknown part of Sri Lanka. Out of a crumbly, empty old house we’ve fashioned something we hope will make an ideal sanctuary, both for those wanting extended retreat space and those just seeking a shorter escape in the hills.

Our goal has been to offer spaces where people can enjoy time together, experience a very honest and open side of Sri Lanka, and from which they can take something not so often found in the tourist guides.

While our focus has been to create something ideal for retreat leaders of all sorts, we’re equally keen to welcome guests traveling independently; those that will appreciate really great, healthy Sri Lankan food…active, occasionally even adventurous, days…and a uniquely restorative spot.


Travel Info

ARRIVAL: We will be including group transfers from Colombo at 12pm on March 17th. If you arrive after that timeframe you will be responsible for your own travel however we can help set it up for you and there may be other guests in the same boat (or plane).  It’s about a 4 hour drive from the airport to the retreat center.
If you’re more adventurous or coming early, you can also take the train to Kandy and we can set up a pick up for you from there!
DEPARTURE: We highly recommend scheduling a flight that departs after 5pm from Colombo or staying the night there so that you can join our group transportation on the 23rd. Many people will be traveling onward, but we plan to schedule a group transfer around 8am-10am depending on the group’s flights.
We suggest traveling before or after this trip to take advantage of the long long journey and are happy to help with suggestions! We definitely recommend arriving to Colombo at least a day or two early to adjust from the jet lag but know that many of you will be arriving on the 17th so we’ll take care of you!

Get Clear Before You Purchase

We encourage those that can’t afford the full price option to sign up early for the lowest price. We strive to maintain a balance between offering our programs to the widest range of participants and running a sustainable and thriving company so that we can continue to create and share our experiences with you. Please inquire about payment plans.  We can split up your payments to make it work, however final payments are due 60 days prior to the start date of your retreat.

By reserving your space through placing your deposit with us, you are agreeing to the stated policies in our Agreement.  Please read in full and please note:

All prices are per/person USD. All bookings include a refundable deposit that is 50% of the total trip cost. Final payments are due 60 days before the start date of the trip to keep your spot secure.

If cancellation (always in writing) takes place within 7 days of booking, 100% of the trip price is refundable including the deposit, unless retreat start date is less than 60 days from booking date.

If cancellation takes place 120 days prior to the retreat start date, any payments made will be refunded within 30 days of cancellation, plus 75% of your deposit.

If cancellation takes place 90 days prior to the retreat start date, any payments made will be refunded within 30 days of cancellation, plus 50% of your deposit.

If cancellation takes place 60 days or less prior to the retreat start date, 100% of the trip price and deposit will be forfeited.

YOGASCAPES reserves the right to make any changes deemed necessary by our team, trip leaders, teachers or partners. In the rare case of a cancellation on the part of YOGASCAPES (due to political unrest, dangerous weather, or low sign-ups)  we will offer a transfer to another trip or a full refund of your funds. We require all participants to purchase travel insurance and highly encourage them to purchase “cancel for any reason” to protect them against the rare chance of cancellation.
