Tulum Yoga Love
February 3, 2015
Set on the edge where the jungle meets the perfectly white sand of Tulum, we found our home at Uno Astrolodge in paradise with Gillian St. Clair. Uno Astrolodge was the sweetest home we could have asked for on our Tulum Yoga Love retreat. As both an ongoing community and open retreat center, the culture of wellness and warm atmosphere is strikingly beautiful.
We each had our own sweet routine through which to soak up our perfect surroundings to start the day… running at sunrise, journalling on the sand, hanging out with the local peacock, or jumping into calm the turquoise waters…
Each morning, the twelve of us gathered in the raised yoga studio in the trees or right on the beach to explore strong, creative flows with one of our absolute favorite instructors, Gillian St. Clair, owner of Steadfast and True Yoga. While on retreat, we are able to dive deep into our practice with remarkable teachers and also spend time with them off the mat. We can ask those burning questions we have about that one pose we’re eager to work through, learn about their experience as a devoted student and teacher of yoga, and have a blast with them (the secret’s out… Gillian is hilarious!). Gillian led us through sequences and into poses that we had never even seen before. We loved her innovative Vinyasa and Ashtanga alignment-based flows that are strong and supportive, and guide you to your most open and strong self!
Every yogi is brought to retreat for a different reason; through a shared sense of openness and willingness to experience deeply, we are able to find both rejuvenation and transformation. Inspired by the connection to each other, the practice, and a bright adventure we soaked up Tulum fully.
After diving into our morning practices, we indulged in Uno’s divine breakfast: chilled coconut oatmeal or homemade bread, soft cheeses, and spreads, both served with a bowl of fresh fruit, coffee, homemade chai and orange juice. We were in heaven. Throughout the retreat, we continued to be blown away by the flavors and creativity of the nourishing meals providing by the amazing team at Uno… In fact, I think I almost cried twice as the meals were rolled out, and that’s always a good sign.
Between the afternoon adventures at Mayan ruins, snorkeling in fresh water caves called Cenotes, sound healing sessions, live music in town, and a traditional Temescal sweat lodge ceremony, we had a throughly incredible adventure. We were honored to go off the beaten mat with Gillian and every incredible yogi that retreated with us. Until next time Tulum!
