Teacher Spotlight: Brook Cheatham

November 3, 2016

Brook is a superstar. She is so real and raw about her practice and life.  There’s so much to learn from her. Here’s our full conversation, read on!

What does your practice look like? What is your favorite pose?

I practice yoga every second of every day. Sometimes its super sloppy, sometimes its beauty in motion, but I have learned that everything is exactly as it should be, even the hard stuff. My favorite pose…hmmmm…that’s hard, I would say I enjoy a long held humble warrior.

Who are your teachers? Who/what inspires your teachings?

Elena Brower and Manorama are my current inspiring teachers I study under but I have strong love for my first teachers Baron Baptiste and Bryan Kest. They both showed me that yoga isn’t about fancy tights or what we wear on the outside.

What are your favorite self care rituals or habits?

Oh man- Chai, I love to make chai, find a spot outside and sit. I also love to get massages, actually, I think it is more accurate to say I am addicted to massages!

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Spare time, what is that?

How do you balance spiritual practice with life’s daily challenges?

I have to meditate every morning, otherwise its just a shit show for the rest of the day. Seriously! Even sometimes when I meditate, I still have challenging days, but I notice a marked difference in the way I handle everything when I come from a grounded place.

What are your favorite yoga books to read for inspiration?

Oneness by Rasha, and I am currently reading the Five Dharma Types which is amazing.

Whats your mantra?

Love yourself enough to be with yourself.

What excites you about your upcoming retreat to Costa Rica?

How can I pick just one thing? I mean the ocean, the surfing, the stars in the jungle, the food, the people! Those are all equal to me as far as my excitement level about going to this gorgeous part of our earth. I am inspired by the wildness and creativity that is vibrant and boundless in the jungle. This retreat is going to be pure bliss + magic, and I am so honored to be able to guide the beautiful people who share it with me!
