Summer Travel Wellness Tips to Your Maintain Sanity & Health
May 23, 2016
Summer is almost here and travel season is rapidly approaching.
While we all love traveling off the beaten path and far away from our homes, getting sick can put a huge damper on our travels. At the same time, losing our sanity can also have a detrimental effect on our travels.
Below we detailed a bunch of secrets to have you feeling you feeling good throughout your experience.
Before You Travel:
Be sure to be well-rested the week before you set off for your adventure. Not only will it make you less likely to keep sick, it’ll keep you way sanity, even if you end up with a little bit of jet-lag.
2. Drink (Water)
Drink a ton of water to stay hydrated while on the plane, boat, or in the car.
Carry With You:
1. Herbal Remedies
To increase resilience to stress, we can refer to the ever-popular Ginseng and the more recently spotlighted Ashwaganda. Both will encourage preventative support of the nervous system, while Oats and Skull cap can help restore the nervous system and reduce anxiety or tension. If we’re looking for an immune and adrenal boost, Astragalus is another great option. Some of these will be best taken as a tea, while others will be best suited as tinctures diluted in water. Of course, always do your own research, consult a health practitioner and listen to your body.
2. A Journal
As we explore, learn, and live abroad, keeping a daily journal can be very grounding. Our welcome adventures can bring with them a lack of routine. Writing can bring some of that consistency back to keep us sane, and blogs are a great way to keep you connected to family back home and document your travels.
3. A Yoga Mat
A ton of airports worldwide are now offering yoga rooms and even if your airport doesn’t, busting out a couple down-dogs or twists can help you stay grounded during your travels.
4. Essential Oils
Essential oils can help prevent illness while traveling. This blend is a must with traveling! The respiratory blend is a blend of the essential oils from laurel leaf, peppermint, eucalyptus, melaleuca, lemon, and ravensara. Check out the full recipe here.
Throughout Your Travels:
Keep getting as many full nights of sleep as possible — it’s vital to your physical and emotional health.
Maintain your meditation practice to clear you mind and keep you grounded in the present moment.
3. Practice Yoga
Maintaining your yoga practice throughout your travels can help you maintain your physical and emotional strength while leaving you grounded.
4. Drink as much water as possible.
Again, hydration is everything.
After You Travel:
1. Get back to normal hours.
Getting back on a regular sleep schedule may be rough at first, but it’ll get you back in the flow way quicker than continuing to sleep on whatever timezone you were on.
2. Reflect on your journey.
Again, it’s time to pull out your journal, meditation on your memories and share photos with friends. Traveling can help inspire your life throughout the year, so be sure to remember the journey.
