We’ve been dreaming of New Mexico for years and we’re ready to share that dream with you. We were waiting to find the perfect location for our retreat and we found it at Casa Gallina. Located just 5 minutes from downtown Taos it will be our home for the long week and base camp for exploring Taos in one of the most beautiful times of year, the beginning of fall.
While the celebrities of the weekend will surely be the hens that provide fresh eggs daily, they will have fierce competition with your chef, your host, your yoga teacher, the art galleries, the mountains, the unbelievable stars, the river that runs through, the fresh mountain air, and so much more. But competition will be the last thing on your mind. Guided by Abby Tucker’s beautiful and experienced teachings, your stay will a combination of a deep dive into healing and an exploration of your own internal landscape informed and inspired by the exploration of our magical and creative external landscape that invites a a deep inquiry into the soul.
Daily yoga classes with abby will bookend a day full of delicious food prepared by our onsite chef, free time to explore the land onsite and the nearby wonders and a few planned activities together to invite movement, adventure and culture into our experience.
This yoga retreat in Taos is for all levels of yoga, all ages and all different intrests for coming, whether it be for Abby’s amazing teachings, for soaking in the change of seasons, for walking the land of Georgia O’Keeffe or simply an unexplainable calling to be in the land of enchantment for this beautiful long weekend.
Abby Tucker is a beloved teacher, priestess and mystic, who is known for integrating her two paths — the practices of yoga — asana, pranayama, meditation, mantra, mudra and mythology – with mystical earth-based and gnostic wisdom. Abby’s classes offer dynamic biomechanics—gleaned from nearly 20 years of practice and study– within a variety of contexts, including strength and stamina-building; slow empowered flow, or workshop-style depth. Often described as a “teacher’s teacher,” Abby’s classes both nourish and empower students at every level of practice, from raw beginner to advanced practitioner. Abby’s chief mission in teaching is to help students unveil their internal wisdom and power, and to educate them into the depth of practice so that they can thrive in practice and life for the long-term.
Abby spent much of her childhood in a mystical field behind her home in Tennessee. It was there that she first learned that all of nature—including our own human nature—had a pulse, a rhythm and a cycle. She became enchanted by yoga at the age of 10, and began exploring Eastern religions and philosophies in high school and college. It was in 1998 that she finally came to the practices of yoga and, finding her entire life transformed by its alchemy, she left her full-time career in public relations and in 1999 turned her life over to yoga, becoming a full-time yoga student for the next four years. She began teaching in 2002, earned her Anusara certification in 2005, and now holds an E-RYT 500 with the Yoga Alliance.
In 2012, Abby heeded the call of the sacred work of the priestess. She formally entered these practices in 2014 and is now an initiated priestess of the mysteries of Avalon through the lineage of Awakening Avalon. The Sovereign Path is the integration of Abby’s yoga studies and her mystical practices.
Located just five minutes from the historic Taos Plaza, in a quiet, pastoral, farmland setting, Casa Gallina’s five adobe casitas offer an oasis of home and renewal for visitors to Taos. Casa Gallina is the perfect base for exploring the Taos area, and it’s also the perfect place to stay put and to “Slow Down”.
Casa Gallina, in Spanish (and Italian, which is my heritage), means “Hen House”: a nod to the forty plus hens that roam around the land and provide us all with fresh eggs every day!
Spacious, colorful and artful: each casita is decorated and appointed with hand-crafted furnishings, local art, antiques, and textiles from New Mexico, Old Mexico and the world over.
Look out the windows and there’s Taos Mountain. Step outside and take in one of the clearest night skies you’ll ever see. Hear the wild call of the coyotes that regularly prowl the valley. Stay in for the night and cozy up to your wood burning kiva-fireplace or wood-burning stove. Put your favorite music on and cook up a delicious breakfast or dinner in your fully- equipped kitchen with veggies that you picked from the organic gardens and eggs from “the girls”!
Civilization is just a click away. Each casita offers wireless high-speed internet, satellite TV, Blue Ray/DVD, and a music system.
The grounds and gardens are landscaped and grassy with areas to sit and relax, and hammocks to nap in. In summer, enjoy the organic vegetable gardens, strawberry and raspberry patches, fruit orchards, and colorful beds of perennials and wild flowers.
Hiking, biking, rafting, skiing, snowboarding, shopping, galleries, museums, Taos Pueblo and gorgeous drives are all just minutes away. I’ll guide you to all my favorite places!
