We’re so excited to offer this truly unique and adventurous yoga retreat in the south of Italy with Molly Cofman. La Selva is located just south of Naples on one of the most famous coast lines in the world. La Selva is a working organic farm that offers a rare and humble base camp for exploring the picturesque Amalfi coastline. While daily yoga on a platform overlooking the ocean and delicious meals will anchor our experience, those that choose will have access to amazing rock climbing, while others will spend their free time hiking the coast, exploring nearby villages or simply relaxing.
During your free time, hike down into the town of Positano for the beach, shopping or hop a city bus and explore some of the other Amalfi towns such as Ravello, Praiano and Amalfi. La Selva is also perfect for relaxing with a book or taking a nap in a cozy hammock.
The joy of finding such a spectacular location is that it truly is what we seek in all YOGASCAPES retreats – a combination of a quiet escape, delicious food, an amazing community and access to adventure and exploration.
Positano is located in the Southern part of Italy, in the heart of the Sorrento Peninsula dividing two of Italy’s most beautiful bays: the Bay of Naples and the bay of Salerno. The village itself is built around a small curving bay on a steep hill overlooking the island of the Sirens.
It takes just over one hour to drive from Naples Airport to Positano, and by the time you are half way, past the archaeological site of Pompeii, and by the bay of Sorrento, you know that you have chosen the right destination. The coastline is rugged and rocky, every now and again allowing small sandy coves and tiny harbours to be animated by colourful fishing boats. You must stop a couple of times to take in the beauty of the scenery, the smell of the sea air, the jasmine and the sweet fragrance coming from the little bakery down below in the village. Small stores selling lemons, tresses of red and green pimentos, sweet small round tomatoes and bouquets of fresh basil welcome the newly arrived visitor to a world where beauty and goodness are as old as the volcano Vesuvio. – Italia Online

Molly was introduced to yoga in 1993 in Tucson, Arizona while on a journey to keep herself healthy as a dancer. Although in coming from a dance background she connected immediately with the asana practice, Molly found herself intensely inspired to learn more about yogic philosophy. Molly’s interests in Taoism and Buddhist philosophy have shaped many of her endeavors, including her pursuit of studying Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Yoga was a healing resource both for life as well as for the duration of Molly’s professional dance career with River North Chicago Dance Company in Chicago, where Molly lived and taught for many years. Once she finished medical school, Molly began to pursue her formal training as a yoga instructor in order to share more knowledgeably the beauty of yoga. She has studied under acclaimed teachers in both the Ashtanga and Anusara traditions and now studies traditional Hatha yoga in Kerala, India. Although her teaching has its foundations in traditional Hatha yoga, Molly has a unique style of teaching incorporating elements of Chinese Medicine as well as the fluidity of dance.
The concept of fluidity is pervasive in Molly’s approach to teaching, whether it is in dance, Chinese Medicine or yoga. There is not any part of life that is static, so naturally studying, exploring and experiencing life through movement makes sense. When we exhibit fluidity, we have the opportunity to ebb and flow, choose calm or excitation, connect with joy and experience clarity. In a state of fluidity, we have the ability to respond to life, rather than to react to it. Molly believes that the stillness that many seek is not lack of movement, but rather an experience of living in which the energy of the body is uninhibited so that we might experience vibrance without chaos.
At La Selva life and work are surrounded by nature. Our rustic rooms among the olive groves are perfect for those seeking an oasis of calm among the landscape of the Amalfi Coast. La Selva is a land where nature reigns supreme and in this pristine place “in front of u sea” between Montepertuso and Positano in March 2002, we have created an association of social promotion, also called La Selva. The headquarters of the association is in an old country house can only be reached on foot by two paths and set in the wilderness, olive groves, citrus trees, rock walls and cozy grassy terraces. At Selva you can rest and relax after months of work, enjoy our food prepared with ingredients from the land we grow – olive oil, lemons, jams, vegetables from our garden and the fruit of our trees – walk along the beautiful trails that lead to the sea or in the mountains, free climbing, attend courses and seminars on yoga, design, theater and dan
The accommodations are all shared and rustic, charming and quiet in the evening. Well, except for the crickets and in the morning the roosters and donkeys! Two large rooms have private baths and The two smaller rooms have shared showers and baths located outside the rooms. The daily meals are fresh, filling, delicious and all vegetarian made with ingredients from the land. Our wonderful hosts also make homemade jams, jellies, teas and honey.
Cool off in a small swimming pool located in one of the terraces in the rural countryside and access to the internet via wi-fi. Often in the evening we organize screenings on stage seven of nine meters which is located on a terrace above the sea and on Saturday night we make pizza and bread in our wood-burning oven. Starting from Selva you can discover the nearby beaches of the Amalfi Coast, visit Positano, Sorrento, Amalfi and Capri to Naples and Salerno. For meals we use local produce that we grow organically and in the morning you can enjoy the jam made by Marta with oranges, lemons, figs and other fruits that grow in the Forest.
