8 Functional Herbal Teas to Add to Your Daily Ritual
June 14, 2017
One of the first things we learn as young, budding humans is that rituals are important. From brushing your teeth to a daily meditation practice, rituals offer structure to our days, and ready us physically and emotionally for pending tasks, responsibilities, and play.
Studies have shown that rituals provide tangible, proven benefits. Whether they be hygienic or superstitious, these repetitive practices help us stay grounded, get us pumped up and calm us down after a long stressful day. At Yogascapes, we love using ritual as a method of healing. This shows up in our retreats, our yoga practices and our day-to-day lives.
Tea happens to be one of our favorite ways to infuse ritual into any time of day. It’s simple, it’s healing, and the process of brewing a cup of tea asks us to slow down, take a few breaths, and focus on the simple sensation, pleasure, and time-honored technique.
We’re really into Pukka Tea these days. Pukka means “authenticity” and this company is dedicated to their definition, extending beyond high quality, thoughtfully produced tea. Pukka manages to harness the functionality of organic, medicinal grade herbs while honoring their commitment to be 100% carbon neutral, using completely renewable electricity, and being “Fair for Life Certified”. This means that everyone involved with creating each cup of Pukka tea receives health benefits, contributing to their vision of wellbeing and empowerment “from crop to cup”. Not only is Pukka committed to having a positive impact on the environment through ethical sourcing and sustainability, but all of their teas are based on Ayurveda and its healing properties.
Check out the following teas you can add to your daily ritual, any time of day:

It ends with a purifying glow that flows into the sparkle of your eyes and the beauty of your skin (even as an ingredient for a scrub, seen below!).
Tea: Turmeric Glow
Benefits: Golden turmeric – the queen of protective herbs whose nourishing yellow sustains life’s majestic glow. This is a tea to celebrate life – lemon fruit, aromatic cardamom and whole leaf green tea expertly blended with one of nature’s most powerful herbs. The elegance will leave you feeling renewed as each cup lets you don turmeric’s shield.

Tea: After Dinner
Benefits: A wonderfully sumptuous tea for soothing digestion after your meal. The luxurious taste of roasted chicory, the calm of cardamom mingling with aniseed, followed by sweet fennel, and licorice.
Time of Day: Late Night
Benefits: A tea to help you step back, breathe and bathe in the tranquility of chamomile flower and the peaceful bliss of oat flowering tops, fennel seed and marshmallow root.
Benefits: A tea to help soothe you into a place of restful sleep and bring you back fresh for the world. Combining a sleepy crush of oat flower, soothing lavender, and silky-sweet limeflower together with the magic of valerian. This is the perfect cup before bedtime for those who want a break from being a night owl.
For all of these reasons and more, we are thrilled to feature Pukka Tea on retreat with us this summer and fall. They’ll be offering a variety of teas on our Sonoma Breathwork Retreat in June, Sonoma Harvest Retreat in August and British Columbia Ayurveda Retreat in November.
