Giving to People & Planet

November 3, 2016

At YOGASCAPES, we care deeply about exploring what it means to fully live our yoga. We acknowledge that our own personal wellbeing is connected to the health of the planet and all people. As a representation of our commitment to contributing to a healthy world, we are deepening our relationships with inspiring projects preserving our ecosystems, protecting our water, and empowering our communities.

Now upon registering, we give you the option of donating to a number of inspiring projects that we are honored to support. Explore currently featured options below:

Moringa Project

moringa

By hand-harvesting only fresh young leaves, Kuli Kuli ensures that our organic moringa powder is the freshest and highest quality moringa on the market. We work with women-led farming cooperatives worldwide to grow moringa, use it to improve local nutrition and help our farmers earn a sustainable livelihood by selling it here in the US.

To date, we’ve planted 200,000 moringa trees and supported 800 women farmers to earn a sustainable livelihood growing moringa.

Rise Yoga For Youth (Bay Area)

rise yoga for youth

RISE brings yoga and wellness education to schools and youth organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area to empower students to lead healthy lifestyles and respond to life’s challenges in constructive ways.

RISE offers a comprehensive education in hatha yoga, which includes instruction in physical postures, mindfulness, and breathing practices, as well as a series of life skills workshops on non-violence, self-esteem, anger management, conflict resolution, nutrition, drugs and healthy relationships. Unique to the program is a focus on teambuilding activities designed to help students explore their relationships with themselves, each other and their communities.

Classes are taught by registered yoga teachers who have completed teen yoga training.

Planting Justice (Bay Area)

Since 2009 Planting Justice has built over 400 edible permaculture gardens in the San Francisco Bay Area, worked with five high-schools to develop food justice curriculum and created 20 green jobs for men transitioning from prison in the food justice movement. Now, we’re cultivating urban farms and training centers that will dramatically increase the scope and scale of this work.

By building a local, sustainable food system, we can create thousands of green jobs. We provide living wages ($17.50/hr starting wage) and comprehensive health insurance to all our employees because our communities have been starved for good jobs for far too long. By investing in food workers, we can reinvigorate our local economy, increasing access to fresh produce AND meaningful employment.

We believe that everybody deserves to be treated with respect and have equal access to food, jobs, and education.

International Rivers (Bay Area)

rivers

Since 1985, International Rivers has been at the heart of the global struggle to protect rivers and the rights of communities that depend on them.

We work with an international network of dam-affected people, grassroots organizations, environmentalists, human rights advocates and others who are committed to stopping destructive river projects and promoting better options.

We seek a world where healthy rivers and the rights of local communities are valued and protected. We envision a world where water and energy needs are met without degrading nature or increasing poverty, and where people have the right to participate in decisions that affect their lives.

Based in four continents, our staff has expertise in big dams, energy and water policy, climate change, and international financial institutions. We support partner organizations and dam-affected people by providing advice, training and technical assistance, and advocating on their behalf with governments, banks, companies and international agencies. The focus of our work is in Latin America, Asia and Africa.
