The Best Smoothie I’ve Ever Had
November 13, 2014

To be honest I think smoothies are kind of annoying and not always the best way to start a day, given that they are cold in nature which can stifle digestive fires. But I found this amazing smoothing on YOGANONYMOUS and for some reason it looked too good to pass up. It also looked too good to make for myself so I made extra for my sleeping housemates which I think should be added to all smoothie recipes. I also used almond milk instead of water and added maca and hemp because why not?
It’s cold outside and it getting darker each day, which makes the winter blues and sluggish feelings are a real issue.
I feel you on the urge to reach for caffeine but don’t. How do you feel after a huge pumpkin spice latte? I know when the caffeine wears off, it’s no fun.
In the past couple years, I’ve developed an arsenal of recipe pick me ups for clients and myself alike. Caffeine is just not an option for this gal. So I kung fu punch the winter blues to the face with my warming, delicious Smoothie Ville cup a love.
Spirulina is a powerhouse with loads of calcium, protein, amino acids, long lasting protein, and is high in bio available iron (great for anyone pregnant or with anemia). Top that with the added decadence of dates for a boost of fiber and tannins (anti-infective, anti-inflammatory) and sweet creaminess from the spinach you’ll not only be satisfied but be running happy with energy for hours and hours! That’s what real food does, satisfies you and fills you up. Feel free to add your own favorite green veggies or fruits to this and put your own twist on it.
*Tip* one Frozen banana takes this smoothy to another level of yumminess. No refined sugars for this here!
