Where is this retreat and how do/when do I get there?

Travel: The retreat is located about 90 minutes from Cairns Airport so we highly suggest booking a flight that departs a day early and arrives by 1pm on the 16th (there are a number of flights that arrive between 11:00am – 1pm). One group airport shuttle from Cairns is provided at about 1 pm. The exact pick up time is subject to adjustment and we will provide details as the retreat after we receive all guest travel details before the retreat. You may need to fly out as early as the morning of Sep 14th in order to arrive by 1pm  Sep 16th in Australia time – please pay close attention when you book your flights to make sure you arriving on the right day.

If you have to arrive on one of the later flights, we understand and can help coordinate a taxi for you (not included). You will most likely arrive just in time for dinner as most later flights arrive around 4-5pm. If you can’t seem to book a flight that gets in at a reasonable time on the 16th we think it’s probably a sign that you should come a day or more early!

Please book a flight that departs after 12pm on the 22nd if you’re leaving that day to allow a bit of time to soak up the last morning and not rush out too much earlier. One group airport shuttle is included to Cairns airport to arrive around 9:30/10 am in time for the 12pm flights. The exact time is subject to adjustment to fit the group’s needs.

If this shuttle time does not work for you, we can help set up a taxi for you (not included) and will try to pair you up with other guests. If possible, we may be able to drop you off at a beach town on the way to the airport so you can spend time on the coast before you go to the airport. You can also stay longer in the area on Sep 22nd and fly out at a later date.

Weather:

Daintree climate is tropical all year with maximum temp of 32 C in the summer and 25 C in the winter. Most of all pack lightly – at 16 degrees south of the Equator, the weather in the Daintree is like Tahiti..

During the cooler, dry season the days are balmy and the evenings pleasantly cool (26 – 17 degrees Celsius). Summertime, or the green season, means warmer days and restorative rain. The rainforest revitalises itself and the streams are replenished.

Food & Dietary Restrictions:
There will be several options such as vegetarian, gluten free, etc and we can accommodate most dietary concerns.

Health Tips
Please consult your family physician if you have any health concerns prior to this journey.

LOGISTICS

Do I need a Passport/Visa?

Yes. A US passport holder will also need a Visa. But the advantage is of ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) Subclass 601 eligibility. ETA lets you enter Australia as a tourist or for business visitor purposes. You must be outside Australia and be a passport holder from an eligible country. This visa allows you to visit on multiple occasions within 12 months from the date visa granted, for 3 months maximum per stay. Its cost only USD $16. And entire process takes only 1 day.

Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) on other hand has validity of 18 months, process cost is USD $109. And it follow more refined approach with minimum 36 days of process time.

Tourists from the United States to Australia can apply online for an instant travel visa (also known as the Electronic Travel Authority or ETA visa), before starting the journey to Australia. All tourists need an Australian visa, and ETA Visas are processed instantly and electronically linked to your passport.

Adapters/Electricity:

Australia runs on 240v electricity. Most chargers run on 110-240v so check before using but you should be able to get by on just an Adapter. For larger appliances or ones that don’t run on multi volts you will want to use a converter (something that changes the voltage so that it doesn’t overwhelm your appliance). Unfortunately these don’t work that well and are a little heavy so we suggest using local appliances (hair dryers, etc.) rather than risking your electronics. Please remember that you will need an adapter (a simple plug that allows you to plug into the Australian sockets)

Money:

You will need Australian Dollars in Australia. We highly suggest taking cash out at the ATM in the airport rather than changing money in a bank. You will also be able to use your credit card for a lot of purchases but we generally suggest having around $2-300 in cash for tips and for any smaller place that may not accept credit cards.

Tipping

Please budget about $10 per day for tipping. We will collect tips from guests for activities on the day of the activity or you can tip directly. We will collect tips for the retreat center as a group so that they can be distributed equally to staff.

Travel Insurance

If international: Yes, YOGASCAPES requires each trip member to purchase individual travel insurance for their trip. We suggest that you include “cancel for any reason” with your policy. You must purchase travel insurance that includes medical coverage.

ANYTHING ELSE?
When are final payments due?

Final balances are due 60 days before the departure date of the trip. If final payments are not received by 60 days prior to departure, YOGASCAPES reserves the right to cancel your reservation and accept new reservations for your space. If you do not think you can pay in time please contact us via email.
