5 Reasons to Travel While You’re Still Young
September 9, 2015
When you’re young (and wild and free, as a song goes) like me, life is nothing less than an adventure.
You get to work on your goals—achieving natural weight loss, staying fit and healthy, landing on the top of your career, enjoying every moment you get. You get to dream up all sorts of bucket lists—foods you have got to eat, places you should see, and stuff you have to do before you get married. That’s what makes our 20s so exciting, wouldn’t you agree? And that’s precisely why I love my age.
On a personal note, I have made a bucket list of places I should set foot on before I reach the ripe age of 30. And yes, I’ve given myself a timeframe to keep my financial efforts on point. Topping my bucket list is, of course, Paris and its famous Eiffel Tower. I know Paris is so cliché but hey, you can’t blame a die-hard romantic for having that dream. Also on my bucket list are the canals of Venice. Ah, that part where I get to enjoy a view of Venice from a majestic gondola I could now picture out. But, enough of my dreams. I want to know about you.
Do you have a list of must-see places too?
If you don’t have one yet, it’s time that you make one! Really, you shouldn’t allow yourself to miss out on all the fun of travelling, especially at a time when your body will still allow you to do so. If that doesn’t convince you yet, then maybe my list of reasons for travelling will inspire you to grab a pen and make your travel list.
5 Reasons to Travel While You’re Still Young
At our age, we often find ourselves asking, “Who am I?” I’ve asked myself that question a lot of times too and I have to admit that my years have not yet given me all the answers I need. However, when you travel, you get to force yourself to reveal aspects of your personality that Time has not yet allowed you to see. When circumstances force you into a rut and your travel plans are not going the way you planned it to; when you find yourself in unexpected travel situations; that is when you will get to see who you really are.
2. A road to self-development
Before you hit the road towards your destination, you have only seen part of the world—just your side of the world. But once you travel, you get to see a whole lot more. You get to experience the richness of other cultures. You get to try seeing things from the perspective of others whose backgrounds differ from yours. You get to broaden the way you think about things and understand more about life.
You see, travelling is not merely about the stunning photos that you take or the breathtaking places that you see. When you travel, you get a taste of independence, which grants you the opportunity to grow into emotional maturity. When you go out into a different part of the world, you can’t help but improve your social skills as you try to communicate with people who come from different walks of life.
You can’t help but become a better person.
3. An unforgettable experience
Whether it’s the superb culinary feast you have revelled on to the awe-inspiring architectural sites you’ve seen on your trip, there’s always something about your travel that would make it an unforgettable one. You can be sure that many years after you have ventured to another part of the world, you will still be able to look back fondly on all your memories. Just think about the tales you will tell your future grandchildren. Think of how their faces will light up with eagerness as you tell them of your harrowing travels and breathtaking journeys!
4. A break from monotony
Nothing heals stress better than allowing your body time to relax and unwind in a different place.
Why make do with your routine and endure the boredom when you could spice up your life with an exciting getaway?
Spending your weekend someplace else to break the monotony of your schedule is definitely going to be worth the expense. I tell you; getting to enjoy a scenic view other than that of your office desk will make you thankful you took your chance at travelling.
5. A dream come true
In the end, everything that we do in life is for the sake of giving us a measure of happiness. Travelling is the best way for you to experience the purest form of joy. Ask any traveller, and they will tell you just how each of the journeys they have made was a dream come true. Their tales could, one day, be yours too, and it’s best if you get to experience it early when you do not have many responsibilities to hold you back from travelling.
So, really, if you ask me why you should travel, I’ll tell you this: Why not? Dare to experience the thrill of travelling and you’ll understand why.
