3 Keys to a Healthy New Year
January 12, 2016
When we take care of ourselves by eating nutrient-dense, healing foods and pay attention to our minds and bodies, we create inner balance. In the new year, make it your daily intention to focus on the following three areas: 1) diet + nutrition, 2) exercise + body, 3) spirituality + mind. Giving positive attention to these three facets and staying devoted to your intentions will make all the difference in your inner and outer beauty in the new year.
1. Diet + Nutrition
We’ve all heard the saying “you are what you eat,” but in the new year, really be mindful of this fact. Everything you ingest in your body either fuels you or drains you essentially, and it’s time to start giving ourselves the best nutrition possible to thrive and glow. Start your day with a warm lemon turmeric tonic— 1 cup of water, 1 tsp turmeric, half a lemon, 1 tsp of fresh ginger, and 1 tsp of honey. This drink will give your body a potent dose of vitamin c, it’s anti-oxidant benefits, and set glowing tone for the rest of the day. Drink soups, broths, and comforting foods that are full of healthy proteins and easy on the body. Eat healthy fats, whole grains, and nourishing proteins that will give you energy and vibrancy from the inside out.
2. Exercise + Body
A key component to a healthy glow is taking care of our physical bodies. Every experience that we have is stored in our bodies as energy- it is important to clear and release anything stagnant that eventually manifests into pain and tightness. We can accomplish this by developing a yoga/breathing practice. Stretching out and breathing into any tightness with the intention of letting go of what’s not serving us can free up a lot of space in our bodies and our minds. Breathe in space, breathe out tension. It’s also important to incorporate cardio into your routine to get your heart rate up and get the blood flowing. This type of exercise creates endorphins making you feel your best. It doesn’t matter what you do as long as you move your body… dance, walk, run, hike, swim, jumprope, surf… HAVE FUN! You will glow brightest if you actually enjoy the movement, rather than view it as punishment.
